Ava Nussbaum

I was born and grew up in Chicago, the oldest of 5 sisters. My father is a Holocaust survivor.  I lived on a kibbutz in Israel for 3 years in the early 1970’s.  My oldest child was born there.  I now reside in Skokie with my husband Steve.

I went to Jewish day school for 12 years.  I attended the University of Illinois – Chicago Campus and I spent a year after high school on an Israeli work/study program.  At UIC I studied English and Theater.  I worked as a legal secretary and for a number of years I worked for Ann Landers, answering reader mail.  I have been working at the pre-school for over 25 years!

I love to dance (I taught Israeli folk dancing for many years), sing, tell jokes, go to the movies, read, bake, cook, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles (the harder the better), and current events.  I am on the National Board of AMIT, which runs children’s homes and schools in Israel and I am active in my synagogue, Or Torah in Skokie.

I have 3 adult children (all married) and almost 5 grandchildren.  All my children live locally, lucky me!
